Do you need an introduction to fly casting including knots and equipment or a full review of casting fundamentals? Does your leader and fly line end up in curves or piles and you don’t understand why? Do you avoid casting more than 30 feet? This two part clinic, taught by certified FFI instructor John Wylie, is for you!
When: This clinic consists of 2 parts: February 1 & 8, 2020, 8:30 am to 11:30 am
Where: East Mission Bay (grass) (Session 1), Lake Murray (water for roll casting) near SDSU (Session 2) (See directions below).
What to Bring: 6 or 7wt nine foot graphite fly rod with matching floating line is ideal; 5wt is ok but more challenging to cast in the wind. Eight foot 1X or 2X tapered nylon leader. We will be casting on grass at Mission Bay and along the shore at Lake Murray so wear comfortable shoes. Bring sun glasses, water, snack ,and sun protection.
We will have tippet and yarn to make a ‘fly’ to attach to your leader to cast. You will also be provided material to practice knots as well as written material and handouts.
Cost: $20 total payable before Session 1. Please register and pay on the GSF website – registration will open soon. Don’t delay. Class size is limited to just 20 students from GSF and SD Fly Fishers.
